Fuelled by Purpose
Ellie’s career at Somerset Bridge Group is a great example of what happens when curiosity meets opportunity.
Starting as a Claims Handler in FNOL, Ellie quickly developed an interest in fraud prevention. “Fraud evolves constantly,” she explains. “So we have to evolve with it. Tackling those challenges together as a team is what makes me feel most connected.”
That sense of connection is built on trust. Ellie speaks openly about the role her manager has played in her development. “She’s pushed me to take on new challenges and stand by my decisions. That support has completely changed my confidence.”
It’s not only support that’s helped Ellie progress into a Researcher role in the Counter Fraud Unit. She was also helped by a personal development plan, mentoring and hands-on learning. “I’ve learned to trust my judgement, and that’s huge,” she says.
One moment that’s really stood out for Ellie was winning Somerset Bridge Group’s ‘Customer Champion’ award. “Knowing people noticed the effort I put in made me feel genuinely valued,” Ellie says.
Somerset Bridge Group’s culture of ownership has also shaped her impact. Spotting a recurring issue around policy modifications, Ellie proactively worked with our Underwriters to create clearer guidance, speeding up processes and improving the customer journey for everyone. “I’m lucky enough to see the direct impact my work has on SBG - last year the Counter Fraud Unit saved tens of millions of pounds in the fraud we uncovered.”
More recently, Ellie became a Bridge Builder – one of a group of colleagues across the business helping shape and lead initiatives that make Somerset Bridge Group an even better place to work. “Seeing ideas turn into real changes for colleagues is something I’m incredibly proud of.”
Finally, what motivates Ellie is deeply human. “Every customer is an individual, dealing with something stressful. Acting fairly protects both them and the business, and that purpose is what fuels me.”
